A new perspective on life

A new perspective on life

In 1982, three events occurred in my life that made me question everything I thought I knew: Two young friends died in separate farming accidents.

Both men were young, good boys, and newlyweds, and both men’s wives were pregnant. It was fall and they were busy filling the silo with corn to feed the cattle during the Midwestern winter.

The silo was one of the oldest built of cement and supported by iron bands around the sides. The young man was on top of the silo when one of the bands suddenly broke and the silo collapsed with the man inside. A freak accident, if the band had broken just a few minutes before or a few minutes after, no one would have been hurt.

The next incident involved another friend of mine, he was driving a self-propelled combine into a cornfield when a wheel fell into a rut he hadn’t seen.

Actually, this shouldn’t have happened since the grind wasn’t that deep.

I began to question the existence of God and if he existed, why did he allow these things to happen to good people? For me that was a no answer.

Why would God want one person to have to put up with this when the next person didn’t? I belonged to the Masonic Lodge and began to ask what the hidden meanings of masonry were. Even though the brothers were well versed in the ritual, no one really

he knew what the hidden mysteries were. After much research, I discovered that there were no hidden mysteries, they were out in the open, ready for us to understand when we reach a level of understanding to fully grasp them. Same with “God’s Will.” When we are ready to understand, the answer will come.

Each person will come to a different understanding, based on their knowledge and the situation in their life, but through it all, I came to a new study of life, God, and the challenges we all face.
