A portrait of Siegfried Wolf: Well-connected Styrians with a Russian soul
5.30 a.m., March 20, 2021
As a manager, he has had a picture book career. Siegfried Wolf, whom everyone just calls Sigi, worked his way up as a toolmaker and was a successful CEO of Magna International. At the end of 2010, a few months before his mentor Stronach withdrew, he moved to the realm of the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. There he still pulls the strings as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the vehicle manufacturer GAZ. But he is now on the verge of crowning his career in his home country. With the purchase of the MAN plant in Steyr, perhaps the last remaining dream would come true for the native of Eastern Styria: Owning a world-class company yourself, on par with the world’s industrialists. Wolf wants to bring the Steyr truck brand to a new bloom.
