Announcement – Facebook is reducing political content in feeds for some users
Facebook wants to temporarily reduce the spread of political statements in some countries. Specifically, such content would be reduced this week in the “feeds” of some users in Canada, Brazil and Indonesia, the Internet company announced on Wednesday. In the USA, the move is planned for the coming weeks. Details were initially not known. Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that he wanted to “lower the temperature” in political discussions.
The users did not want politics and arguments to dominate the social networks, so Zuckerberg in explanation. Facebook had already announced that it would no longer recommend political and social groups to users.
Zuckerberg’s group was repeatedly criticized for not acting energetically enough against hate speech and hate messages on Facebook. The now planned steps will test how political statements could be weighted differently in the “feeds” of the Facbook users, Facebook announced. However, statements by government authorities and information about Covid-19 from health organizations should not be reduced. (apa / reuters)
