Gosh! Christian Kern on “Welcome Austria!” You remember: He was the eloquent, cool hope of the SPÖ, who renounced politics, whoosh up again. At the time, it was suggested that the prospect of years in the opposition had ruined Kern’s motivation. Understandable, but what a departure back then! Kern surprised with the announcement that he wanted to run for the SPÖ and somehow also for the EU social democracy in the EU elections. Nothing came of all of this, since then, for many, Kern has been the greatest disappointment since the invention of the SPÖ.
