New blow for Roberto Martinez: Romelu Lukaku absent from the selection of the Red Devils

The national coach will unveil his selection for the three qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup this Friday at noon. Several Red Devils will be missing, including Axel Witsel and Eden Hazard, injured, but also Romelu Lukaku!

L‘Milan’s Health Protection Authority (ATS) ruled on Thursday that Inter Milan players, after Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino tested positive for coronavirus, could not join their national team in the next truce . The Red Devils will therefore not be able to count on their main offensive weapon, Romelu Lukaku.

After the absences of Eden Hazard and Axel Witsel, it is a new blow for the selection of Roberto Martinez, who will challenge Wales (24/3) and Belarus (30/3) in Leuven. Between these two duels, the Devils will travel to Prague to face the Czech Republic (27/3).

In a statement, Inter specifies that ATS has suspended, with immediate effect, all activities of the club until March 21. The match against Sassuolo scheduled for Saturday will therefore not take place and all international internists are deprived of a meeting. New tests are scheduled for Monday March 22 before a possible resumption of activities.

This is not the first time that the Devils have been deprived of a player playing in Italy. Indeed, Dries Mertens had to miss the November matches due to a similar situation at his club Napoli.
