Restaurant discounts for seniors
Have you noticed how many restaurants offer senior discount rates? Since discounted prices are rarely advertised, probably not many of you have. You have to ask. In some cases, the rate is considerably different, so from now on, if you qualify, be sure to ask.
Some of the discount fares may be a free cup of coffee in the morning, while others may be up to 20% off specific food selection items. Also note that discount rates may apply only to specific areas of a restaurant chain. Are these discount rates specified online? I have never seen them, but now I will look at them.
It goes without saying that you must disclose proof that you are over the age of 65, usually the cut-off age for senior classification. Certain restaurant chains offer discount rates for people over fifty.
Lastly, some restaurants have a selection of food for seniors, as well as the children’s menu with smaller selections and therefore a reduced fare. Frankly, it would be a relief to have smaller selections since I could never consume the amount they give me. It is suitable for two people, and I have visited a restaurant where we ordered just one dinner for the two of us.
Below is a list of restaurants that offer discount rates. This list is now a few years old from a Donna Montaldo post for “About Money.” However, she will give you an idea of how countless American restaurants at least have discount rates of some kind.

There is an impressive number. I would be interested in getting answers from other people about the variety of discount restaurants in other countries. Let me know if anyone discovers this. I have to say looking at this list that these are not my favorite places to go; however, some of them may be healthy enough to be interesting.
The other way to eat at restaurants on a shoestring budget is to find discount coupons. Below are some great resources to check out: neighborhood newspapers, resort travel magazines, city information centers (occasionally called welcome centers), phone books, and of course online websites, including restaurant. com, opentable.com and rewardsnetwork.com. Happy eating!
