The art of processing emotions
Many of us spend hours processing the emotions we experience in our lives. It is in the belief that if we come to a place of resolution with them, we would be happier and/or more present in our lives. Processing emotions is a skill that many have a hard time doing, especially if they weren’t taught as children to identify what they were feeling. Millions have difficulty processing their emotions so if you perceive that you fit into this category, don’t feel alone.
Processing emotions is as much an intellectual skill as it is a bodily experience. We may be able to express the emotion, retrieve the memory related to the feeling, but not have a real connection to it in our body. What can make us feel disconnected from the experience itself and from our own body.
Being able to perceive emotions includes feeling the entire experience in our physical body. It is feeling where our body feels uncomfortable when we are upset and all our bodily reactions included. When we do this we teach ourselves to be more present in our body. The more we live with this type of awareness, the more intense the anger feels, but also the joy and happiness. We begin the process of leaving the life of confused emotions where we feel little and remain in a mundane expression of our feelings to a fuller range of ourselves.
One of the keys to getting out of mundane life is learning to feel the emotions of our past. What we have emotionally repressed is often one of the blocks that prevents us from feeling ourselves. If we can tap into those energetic memories on a bodily level, we can begin the process of releasing them forever. Our cognitive recollection of these experiences only gives us the information in our minds that we have to address what our bodies have stored to actually make them go away.
What I have discovered is that much of our anxieties, worries, anger, etc. Diaries always have a source in our past. So when I experience the emotion, I stop, sit down, and feel it. The first step is to locate where you feel the anguish in your body. If you can’t identify it in your body, ask your body consciousness to come up so you can feel it. Or just ask your body: “Where is the feeling of this emotion?”
Our bodies can do this. They are complex sensory organs that can give us massive amounts of information if we ask them to. It is important to know that the body wants us to discover these things because it will be much easier for you not to carry these repressed emotions.
When we are able to identify the location of the feeling of the emotion, sit down and be present with it. Set your awareness to perceive the full intensity of the experience of it. Observe alone, if we judge it, we re-traumatize ourselves with the experience, for example, do not go into how bad it was. Even if a memory comes up, just stay present with it.
Once you feel you are in touch with the full energetic memory of the experience, ask your body: “Is there a deeper source from which this emotion originated?” Notice if another sensation appears in your body, it may be somewhere else or even below where you have been working. Begin the process of perceiving the full intensity of the energetic memory again. Your presence with him will be the catalyst for his release.
When we release these experiences we will begin to feel a lightness in our body. It feels like the energetic rocks are being removed from us giving way to a heightened body awareness that is generally perceived as a lighter sensation. It is a part of the process of knowing yourself fully.
As I go deeper into this process, I find that sometimes I need to cry to grieve or hit or scream into the pillows to fully release my anger. When I do this, I stay focused on the intensity of the energy in my body, I don’t put my attention on the person I’m angry with, like imagining their face on the pillow. It’s about identifying and releasing your own anger, not projecting it onto someone else. An important distinction.
What I have found is that by using the Access Energy Transformation tools, I am able to release these pent up emotions more effectively. Access releases thoughts, beliefs and emotions on a cellular level. When used directly with the identification of the energetic emotional experience, the release is very dynamic and permanent. I have seen my life change and have witnessed great transformational changes in others using these amazing tools.
When we begin to live in a place where we are not influenced by our suppressed emotions, we begin to live with a fuller presence within ourselves. Our past no longer provokes us in our daily interactions. It is a wonderful freedom. We experience anger, sadness, and happiness more fully from a more realistic perception.
