The crisis we face: obesity in the United States

How bad is the obesity crisis in America these days? Well, it is getting closer to critical and we see that children are so overweight that they are at risk for juvenile diabetes. When children are young and have an obesity problem, they are training their bodies to operate in a certain way and this will follow them throughout life. It is essential that children eat well, exercise and stay lean and fit.

If these children are obese at a young age and well into adulthood, they will have multiple complications by the time they are 35 years old and this will burden our already huge crisis in the health care system. If we want to have universal health care in the United States of America, we must do something now about this obesity crisis. The longer we wait, the worse the problem will be.

Rising health insurance costs are only part of the problem, yet critical to the quality of life and standard of living for most Americans. It should be pretty obvious that America needs to watch our diets. Eating right and exercising at least 30 to 45 minutes a day is said to increase your life expectancy by five to 10 years. You can do something so simple and very few people do it.

Those over the age of 50 who walk at least 3 miles a day generally live 10 years longer and in better health during their later years than those who do not. Whether you are young or old, you need to eat well and exercise, because your health and your life depend on it.
