The eight rules you need to know to take care of your baby bearded dragon

Bearded dragons, also known as beardies, are native to Australia. When it comes to keeping reptiles as pets, they are the popular choice. They are sociable and friendly to humans compared to other animals. It takes a lot of responsibility to take care of yourself. You take on the role of mother when it comes to helping them adjust to another environment. It is a great idea if you decide to have such a pet. Buying one is not difficult because you can find them in pet stores.

There are three things to consider when planning to adopt a bearded dragon as a pet: proper planning, care, and making important decisions. Here are some rules that can help those who are new to this hobby. You should be aware of these guidelines so that you can fully consider and understand the degree of responsibility that you will have to take on once you have decided to take care of a beardie.

Rule 1. You need to support your baby dragon’s rapid growth by increasing its food. Bearded babies need a lot of food to grow up healthy and happy. For three to six weeks, let your pet eat two to three times a day. Include small crickets in your meal. Avoid giving them large because this can cause aspiration since they still have tiny organs. Mixed this protein rich food with green leafy vegetables. Always give him water after every meal.

RULE OF THE THUMB: When it comes to the size of the food, measure the distance between the two eyes of your dragon. The size of the food should be half the measured length. If you follow this rule, you will save your baby dragon from terminal ingestion.

Rule 2. Check your dragon’s body for parasites regularly. Even if you bought it parasite free, it is important that you are sure there are no mites out there. Parasite infestation can occur at any time in your beard’s life. They can get this only from the food they eat every day.

Rule 3. Consider the spacing of your beard. The purple of your beard should be that of a 10 gallon tank. After six months, increase it to 20 gallons as it must adapt to your increasing size. Once it has reached adulthood, increase it to 50 gallons. Your beardie would love to exercise and sunbathe, so it’s a must that you give her the space she needs.

Rule 4. Observe the cleanliness and order in your baby dragon’s tank. Clean it regularly to prevent your dragon from getting diseases. If you see any residue, dispose of it immediately and clean the area. Your baby pet is susceptible to disease and his immune system is weak compared to that of an adult. It is important that you give them proper care during the first few months.

Rule 5. Consider your beardie’s room temperature. The temperature inside his cage must be controlled. One end should be warm enough for them to rest and sunbathe, while the other end should be cool enough for them to adjust their body temperature when they feel too hot. A temperature gradient can help you do this.

Rule 6. In their natural habitat, bearded dragons are used to sunlight and the only way to replicate this is by installing an ultraviolet light. UV light helps digestion. Remember, in order for your little beardie to survive, you must provide it with a replica of its natural habitat.

Rule 7. Use paper towels as substrates. Besides being highly recommended for your beard, these are easy to clean and replace.

Rule 8. Spend quality time with your dragon. You are his father and your pet will admire you. Bonding with him builds trust. Never take them by the tail. They can become aggressive. Be sure to wear them carefully during handling.

These are the eight important factors to consider when you want to parent your little beardie. If you follow these simple steps, you will have a pet without problems and that will make you happy.
