Traditional bachelorette party games

Bachelorette parties are traditionally fun-filled evenings with lots of gifts, good food, and party games. Often on the silly side, games and activities can add to the lively spirit of the shower. This is a look at traditional bachelorette party games.

Probably the silliest of all the bachelorette party games is the toilet paper bride. This is a great activity for a large group of ladies. Divide the guests into several teams and arm each one with nothing more than a roll of toilet paper (and maybe some duct tape). Within a set time limit, each team is challenged to create a wedding dress for a woman with nothing but toilet paper. Hilarity ensues as groups compete to craft the most fashionable wedding dress possible using the humble material. Bonus points definitely go to the team that makes special details out of the paper, like rosettes for the dress or a string of pearls out of toilet paper to adorn their “bride.” At the end of the time limit, the bride-to-be chooses her favorite dress and the winning team receives a small prize.

A great traditional bachelorette party game is a quiz to see which guest knows the bride best. The shower presenter does the personalized quiz (and since she has the answers, she would not participate in the game). Guests are given a paper with lots of questions about the bride, and are challenged to answer them and see which of them can answer the most questions correctly. Quiz topics can include how the bride and groom met, the bride’s favorite color, what sport she played in high school, and any other personal details the host might find appropriate to share in a large group. The game can be tailored to guests a bit, in that certain questions can be fun to include if the shower consists of only close friends, as opposed to a multi-generational party with relatives. One of the funniest girlfriend quiz questions I’ve ever heard was one about the worst boyfriend the girlfriend ever had before she got engaged to the perfect man. It opened up quite a lively debate!

Kitchen themed games are also quite traditional for bachelorette parties. A simple classic activity is for the host to carry a pan of assorted kitchen utensils around the room. Each guest can look at the tray for a set amount of time, say 30 seconds, after which she must write down as many things as she can remember. Whoever remembers the most items correctly wins the game. Make it challenging by including tools beyond basic spatulas and whisks. Less common items like egg beaters, candy thermometers, and oyster forks will add to the challenge and help the winner win her prize.

Word scrambles are also a fun bachelorette party game. Standard word games or word search activities can be found in bachelorette party books or online, but it’s also very easy to make your own. Give your pun a wedding theme, with phrases like pearl necklace, bouquet, wedding dress, and fiancé for guests to look up or puzzle out. If you like, you can slip in some silly words, like Bridezilla, if the group finds it funny.

Bachelorette party games definitely make the party more fun. While they’re not for everyone, there’s something sweet about traditional games. Why not add some fun to the next bachelorette party you plan with some of these great traditional activities?
