Precooked bacon versus traditional bacon

I’ve never met a person who doesn’t like bacon. It has all the qualities of a fine food, it is crunchy, it is salty, it can be sweet and you can never have enough. In recent years, a new pre-cooked bacon has appeared on the market. Pre-cooked bacon offers advantages and disadvantages to traditional bacon.

Advantages of precooked bacon:

o Ready to use – Precooked bacon is ready to eat right out of the package. No microwave, oven or stove required. It is truly an open meal, to eat and enjoy.

o Easy to use- Pre-cooked bacon because it is a finished product, it is easy to use when making a quick dish. This lends itself well to busy families and hurried mornings.

o Less waste: When you open a package of pre-cooked bacon, you can use only what you need that day. The rest of the bacon can be saved for later use.

Disadvantages of parboiled bacon:

o Price: Precooked bacon will generally cost more than traditional bacon. This disadvantage can actually be an advantage when you consider that there is less waste with precooked bacon because you can only use what you need and it has a longer shelf life.

Advantages of traditional bacon:

o Less expensive: traditional bacon has a lower cost because less processing is required for the finished product.

o Smell: there is something almost magical about cooking bacon. The smell of cooked bacon wafting through the house brings children, husband and even teenagers out of hiding.

o More options: there are currently more options available on the market for traditional bacon than for parboiled. You can find thick slices, thin slices, maple, brown sugar, farmer’s cut, center cut, and a variety of other types of traditional bacon.

Both pre-cooked and traditional bacon can be used in sandwiches like BLTs, salads, baked potatoes, burgers, and soups. So the next time you shop for bacon, consider what you plan to use it for and choose which one is better for your pre-cooked bacon or traditional bacon.
