Being a parent and watching our babies grow is hard, we all know that. I am just beginning to experience this evolution from toddler to pre-teen to teen with my daughter turning 14 and turning 21. I am writing this with my first experience as a parent raising a child this age, BUT, I distinctly remember my pre-teen and Teen. years, and my God (lol) I can’t believe the things I got away with!

My parents came from Europe and they were very strict, or what I called old-fashioned at the time, about the rules for me and my sisters and not so much for the little brother who came much later than at this point in my life. I am writing this article, I think just to tell the story of what happened to my daughter in a matter of months, but I feel like I need to tell a lot of parents out there what I actually did! Believe me, not all her little angels are little angels, I don’t want to insult anyone because I know there are great kids who don’t have the personality or the genes that could make a child misbehave. Instead of telling all the stories I’d be here for hours and I should probably write a book if I told you all the stories from my early and late teens I bet this would be a bestseller I’m going to write a quick list and return to the here and now with teenagers.

What Margo got away with as a teenager:

*I illegally drove my mother’s car to a friend’s house at age 15 (driving age was 16) almost daily, when my mother went for a walk every day (except on days when my father was away). working).

*Movies with my friends- NO- I would tell my mom that I would meet my friends’ parents at the end of the driveway so they couldn’t see that a guy was picking me up > (I wasn’t allowed a date).

*I was at a keg party on the beach in the next town over EVERY weekend.
*We (a group of about 20 guys and girls going out, sometimes only 4 or 5, other times up to 40 would go to the pool after drinking at all the pools in the neighborhood, many times without…

* The group used to drive to a private pool club on the other side of town and just for fun, jump over fences and skinny dip in the dark.

* I was able to channel a beer faster than most of the guys I dated.

*If we were sleeping over at a particular friend’s house, we’d sneak out for the night and go to a party…

*I used to sneak my boyfriend at one point, in my closet with a large storage area in my bedroom and he lived there a few days at a time, he was having issues with his foster parents.

*I once stuck my head out the window of a friend’s parents car and was throwing up (throwing up) right in the middle of St (a city) while the car was moving, I was so drunk. WHY did my “FRIENDS” take me home like this (well, they couldn’t deal with me and wanted to go back to the party to drink more), because when I walked in, I tried to make it to my room without staggering. , which meant walking past my father watching TV. Of course, there was a couch in my path and as I walked behind it and fell on it, it gave my dad a hint that something was up… grounded for being in Stamford more, but he didn’t tell me. my mom (the tough one) until she found out I’m going back to Stamford next weekend. Okay let’s stop there, I don’t want my mom to know more than she has to if she ever comes across this.

One of my first ‘deviant’ behaviors was sneakily putting on makeup in seventh grade and forging notes late, just so I could walk to school with a friend instead of taking the bus.

Going back to my daughter and parenting. The first problem that arises, in addition to having all the designer clothes, a horse and almost everything she wants, (spoiled) is a great girl, with a big heart.
