Brazil ERP Selection: Localization Notes – Oracle, Microsoft, SAP, Microsiga

Oracle E-Business Suite, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP mySAP or SAP B1 (Business One): these ERPs are localized for the Brazilian market from the point of view of compliance with legislation and taxes, as well as the Portuguese interface and the support of Languages. Features such as multi-currency support are common to all leading ERP brands; However, the location dilemma also includes country-specific modules such as Payroll and HR, Manufacturing (especially reports to inspection authorities), state and municipal taxes.

When a multinational corporation launches its operations in Brazil or another country, the MRP selection dilemma is probably one of the first to be addressed. The realities of international business must be viewed from all possible sides and potential trouble spots. Let us give you the questionnaire.

o Centralized control. At your headquarters, you would like to maintain control over ERP data entry, reports, management resources, etc. The meaning of control is typically broader than it initially appears. Consider a hypothetical situation where you need to make changes to the overseas finance department management team. To ensure its flexibility in this scenario, the ERP system must be “understandable” (English support) and its interface must be standard: Microsoft, SAP, Oracle or other recognizable world brand; this will allow you to find a qualified manager, who understands and shares the ideology of your company and is familiar with the MRP interface

o Government Audit. If you plan to implement your ERP headquarters, which is not recognized worldwide, then you can expect that this custom “localization” of the system will not convince the local audit authorities. In some cases, it is still fine, if you do not sell or provide services in Brazil, if you only export your production, for example

o Payroll and HR functionality. It’s a known problem with ERPs around the world: they have to optimize their localization efforts for the specific country. Legislation on payroll could be seen as the second step. In Brazil, payroll is definitely better automated by locally developed ERP, like Microsiga. On the other hand, payroll could be done in a local specialized payroll automation application and financial data could be relatively easily integrated with ERP.

o Industry verticals. Transportation Industry – Bill of Lading, Agent Clearance Monthly Report, Hazmat Transportation Documentation – These types of vertical and horizontal functionalities are good candidates for customization. We provide examples of business logic, where you should be prepared to implement local customization experts.

o Local versus world brands. This question requires a deep analysis. Global branding allows you to maintain global control over your ERP, while local MRP allows you to comply with local legislation, including “difficult” areas such as payroll, human resources, local taxes, and more.
