What wellness really means as in health and wellness

Today, people want to live healthy, active and vibrant lives. Today, the sixties look nothing like their grandparents when they were the same age. Additionally, 30-year-olds spend much of their personal time in gyms and weight rooms while doing their research and taking great interest in what is in their food.

In general, in the new millennium, people want to look good; feel good; keep your minds sharp; and most importantly, they want and are living longer mobile lives. To achieve the maximum, that is, to live longer, people are taking personal responsibility for their health and well-being and empowering themselves.

The term well-being can easily be divided into seven categories or dimensions; however, for the sake of this piece, we’ll focus on what I think the top four are.

Emotional well-being: Being able to understand yourself and cope with life’s challenges and transitions without breaking down is emotional well-being. But it doesn’t end there. It is the ability to share feelings productively. It’s not just about managing or controlling stress, it involves being connected to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. And although many people do not have any disconnect with physical well-being, recognizing and understanding their true state of emotional well-being remains a sensitive and inaccessible subject for many. However, to achieve optimal health, the state of your emotions must be explored and accepted.

Intellectual well-being: Intellectual well-being or mental well-being does not mean that you are incredibly intelligent or free from psychosis or mental illness, but rather it incorporates a desire to learn new ideas, experiences, and concepts. Pursue lifelong learning not only about the outside world, but also about yourself by going deeper, if necessary, and connecting. Mental wellness invites you to explore and stretch. It challenges you to be mentally alert by receiving all the signals sent by the Universe. It demands to be open: stimulated by teachers, mentors and personal guides. It is understanding and knowing the mind is where the consciousness of God dwells. While this area of wellness is the least popular, people are moving towards mindfulness theories to find their personal power.

Spiritual well-being: An awakening is occurring throughout the world. People are realizing that a change is taking place, a slow conscious shift towards understanding our planet and our environment. We are realizing that there is something that we all long for and want to fulfill. Baby boomers, especially, are realizing that a healthy soul equals a healthy body; the two are not separate. When you wake up spiritually, you realize that you are one with God; you are in total control of your life; and understand that you are the only authority in your life, you will be willing to transcend by questioning your true purpose, passion and vocation in life.

Physical well-being: This dimension of well-being is the easiest to understand and the easiest to accept. Physical wellness is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows you to go about your daily activities without undue physical stress or fatigue. It is taking responsibility for your physical duress. This can be accomplished with minor exercise or by pushing your body to physical extremes.

It includes the development of muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength, flexibility, endurance, and spiritual awakening. Optimal physical well-being is developed through the combination of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. And yes, that includes spirituality.

Interesting enough when you embrace the three dimensions of wellness mentioned above, the physical is easy. You will have a strong desire to take personal responsibility for your health care by understanding your body, knowing exactly what good health looks like to you. Mentally alert and in tune, you’ll know when serious medical attention is needed and feel comfortable taking the right steps and making the right decision for yourself.

An action plan will produce positive results

Why not make a plan today to take charge of your personal wellness? It is self-fulfilling and the effects are priceless. You will feel empowered, physically stronger, as well as mentally and spiritually sharper. The result: a happier, more empowered, and passionate person leading to a longer life.
